Shadows as a design material

We started treating shadow like a typeface: something to choose, size and space. How it changed our photography and our layouts.

Most of the work we are proudest of began with a sentence rather than a sketch. Before anything is lit or drawn, we try to say what the image is for, who it is for, and how it should feel to meet it for the very first time.

Pacing is a material

A photograph lets the viewer choose the tempo. A film takes that choice away. We spend more time deciding how long a frame lasts than what is in it — a reveal, a pause, then the next idea, never quicker than it needs to be.

Restraint is not minimalism

Removing things is easy. Deciding which one thing deserves to stay, and then giving it all the room it needs, is the actual work. Every project ends with a short list of what we chose not to do, and why.
